Men's Golf Day

REPORT ON MEN’S GOLF DAY 2011

We are pleased to report to the membership on our restructured and revamped Men’s Golf Day for 2011. We had play days on Thursdays for 14 weeks. Approximately 300 nine-hole rounds of golf were played by members and a few non-member greens fee players. We were very fortunate to have lost only one play day to weather (our last day). The top three winners in our Order of Merit season money winnings were Ron Scott, Chuck Merriam and Joe Wright at $111, $78 and $77, respectively. These men will receive bonus pro shop credits of $75, $50 and $30, respectively.

The Steering Committee has decided to name the Order of Merit money winner each year as the winner of the Cousins-Slaymaker Cup and the Men’s Golf Day Season Champion for that year. A plaque is being purchased and will be placed in the pro shop. The name of the winner each year will be inscribed on that plaque. The Cousins and Slaymaker cups will no longer be played as separate events.

We will post on the Club’s website in early Spring the schedule of games for 2012. All of our games are team games with either 3 or 4 players on each team. Except for a few local rules, we play by the USGA Rules of Golf. In almost all instances, play is completed within 2 hours, and then we gather on the pro shop porch to have a cold drink and harass the winners! We plan to add a MGD road trip for next year, probably to the Winter Harbor golf course. More details on that day of golf will also be announced in the Spring.

Thanks to each of you who participated in MGD in 2011, and we hope that even more men will join us next year. We played some golf and had fun doing it.
