Solar Conversion

In 2008 the Causeway Club pool converted from propane pool heating to a solar pool heating system installed by local contractor ReVision Energy.

Outdoor pool heating is a very common installation in sunny climates like Florida and California, but surprisingly works very well in Maine.  The system uses a very simple type of black plastic solar hot water collector that connects to the pool pump.  The pool pump directs pool water up through the hot water collectors, which heat the pool water whenever the sun is shining, and then pumps the heated water back into the pool.

The solar makes the pool much more comfortable throughout the summer season and into the fall.  It has also reduced propane pool heating bills by quite a lot!  Our Club saved around $8,000 in propane during the first year the system was installed.  The system is also quite low-profile, blending in so well with our poolhouse that few guests even notice it's here.
